Went to the Sing-a-long Sound of Music last night with Hannah, Sean, and Sarah. Here's the gist: You pay way too much money for a movie ticket, a cute guy with black-rimmed glasses gives you a bag of party favors, and you get to watch Christopher Plummer in awesome detail. Like a wholesome Rocky Horror, you shout innuendo at the screen and pull champagne poppers when the Captain and Maria first kiss. We hissed at the Countess and barked at Rolph. And a hundred Portlandians with affected vibratos sang along to "Climb Every Mountain." There was a costume contest. Apparently last night's entries were pretty tame (my favorite being Sister Nun of the Above); last week's winner was "Brown Paper Packages," a costume which involved a carboard mailer tube attached in a way that would have made Sister Margaretta blush.

Moira Burke

Psst! This is the blog of Moira Burke, a Ph.D. student in the HCI Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.

Rife with derivative pop culture blather, this site occasionally features thoughts on social psychology, usability, aesthetics, and the general meanderings of someone figuring out the meaning of life. Won't you help me find it?
