Update: I made most of the (much cheerier!) pictures from the rest of the trip public: Jazz Fest set.


Cristen, Irina, and I were driving through the Lower Ninth Ward this morning looking at the carcasses of houses, orphaned porches, and flattened cars. Three local men drove by, slowed down as they approached us, and said "You tell them about this." Pictures of the Ninth Ward.

It's been most of a year already, and there's still tons of debris cluttered around? That's insane.

Yeah, the ninth ward and the lakefront... they are both f-ed for a long time... lame.

I'm trying to figure out that one blue house. Did it look like it floated up and off its foundation and on to the vehicle? Or was the vehicle in some sort of garage?

I think the house floated on top of the car -- it didn't look like there was a garage, and we saw this kind of thing in lots of places. We also saw houses on top of houses and lone cement porches with no sign of the houses that were originally attached to them.
